HCCD teaches exclusively the Russian method of ballet because we believe it is the best! It is a "tried and true" method, producing many of the world's greatest ballet dancers of all time. This method was developed with the body of the dancer in mind; it makes sense physically. HCCD's curriculum and training focuses on strict technique. Regardless of whether a dancer trains for fun, personal fitness, or for a future in dance, HCCD feels it is important to be taught the techniques correctly.
HCCD starts students at the age of eight (For our younger students, we suggest our "combo" program). We love working with new students and training them from the ground up! We offer many options in our program for the beginning dancer.
HCCD starts dancers at two years old in preschool dance classes. These classes form the building blocks for dance in the later levels. Students work on rhythm, body awareness, coordination, classroom etiquette as well as the beginning basics for dance.
HCCD has two age groupings of preschool classes: two to three and three to four year olds. Ballet, jazz and beginning movement are focused on in these classes. The two to three year old classes run 30 minutes long. When students move into the three to four year old classes the time increases to 45 minutes. At this time tap and rhythm are added to the curriculum. This prepares them for our five to eight year old combo programs.
Small Class Sizes… Our Preschool classes have a maximum enrollment of six students in each class. Restricting the class size is extremely important for the training of these young dancers, and individual focus is absolutely vital for their progression.
Performances… Although performing is NOT required, HCCD provides opportunities (a minimum of 3 to 5 times per year) where students can perform. HCCD provides inexpensive, stylish, and modest costumes that dancers purchase and wear throughout the entire year.
Combo Classes are offered for students between the ages of five and eight. Like our preschool classes, our combo dance classes teach the building blocks for dance in the later levels. Students work on rhythm, body awareness, coordination, classroom etiquette, as well as the beginning basics for dance. These combination classes are a wonderful way to introduce dance to children. Classes are split between percussive (tap & clogging) and nonpercussive dance styles (ballet & jazz). This insures the classes are exciting for the children and helps maintain their attention during the constant changing pace. The combo classes are 60 minutes in length.
Small Class Sizes… Our Combo classes have a maximum enrollment of 8 students in each. Small class sizes are very important in the beginning training of dancers. Individual focus is vital!
